Football can be a rewarding game at the best of times. Playing on the weekend’s with all your mates, all the build up and anxiety in the dressing room before kick off to a game.
Then there is that low point. An injury that just comes along and clutches at you tightly. This fate was realized during the week for one of our young players at the club. The tragic news that George Krommidas has torn his ACL is one that no 20 year old should have to endeavor.
We signed Krommidas last season from Oakleigh Cannons where he played his junior football. He came into his own last season with the club, and after a solid preseason this time around, things were looking up come round one. Playing against his old club, on a pitch he knew so well growing up, the unimaginable took place. His knee went. The news confirmed during the week by doctors. 12 months on the sidelines to follow.
It was humbling to see our George arrive at yesterdays game in his Sharks jacket and pants, all be it on crutches, though it shows the spirit of such a young man that he wants to be around his teammates.
Although this next period will be tough, as a club we will behind you George as you go through your rehab and look to 2017. You wont be alone on this journey. We’ll be there with you from the coaches, to your teammates, to staff at the club, and then from the fans.
Keep your head up.
We are all in this together.
