Port Melbourne SC meets St. Albans Saints SC at Knights Stadium this Wednesday night in the Sixth Round of FFA Cup Qualifying, with the winning team to move within one game of qualification to the national Round of 32.
Although St. Albans are the designated home team, their home ground at Churchill Reserve is unable to host this cup tie and it will instead be played at the neutral Knights Stadium in Sunshine North. The draw for the next round of the FFA Cup was held on Monday and both sides now know that the winner will be returning to the same venue to take on Melbourne Knights for a spot in the FFA Cup Round of 32 and the Dockerty Cup semi-finals.
After pulling off a surprise run to the Round of 16 in the 2014 edition of the FFA Cup, St. Albans have already managed to knock-off one NPL opponent in their cup run this year, eliminating Northcote City with 1-0 win away in the 4th Round. They then defeated State League 1 North-West side Yarraville FC 3-1 to progress to the 6th Round.
Port Melbourne SC have performed strongly in the Cup this campaign, with the Sharks defeating NPL2 sides Box Hill United & Sunshine George Cross with the same scoreline of 6-1. Adrian Zahra and David Stirton have lead the way, with 4 & 3 goals respectively in this competition although the variety of attacking threat has seen another 5 players hit the scoresheet across the two games.
